Dental implant surgery is one of the most transformative procedures in modern dentistry. The success depends as much on aftercare as on the surgery itself. Here's the complete aftercare guide.
First 24 Hours
Bite on gauze, no spitting, no smoking, no hot foods or drinks. Cold pack on cheek for 15 minutes on/off to reduce swelling.
Medications
Take all prescribed antibiotics and pain medications as directed. Complete the full antibiotic course even if you feel fine.
Diet — Week 1
Soft foods only: dal, curd, porridge, mashed vegetables, ice cream. No crunchy, chewy or hard foods on the implant side.
Oral Hygiene
Gentle warm salt water rinses from day 2. Brush gently around the implant area — keep it clean but don't scrub.
Smoking
No smoking for at least 2 weeks — smoking dramatically increases implant failure risk by restricting blood flow.
Follow-Up Appointments
Attend all scheduled follow-ups — Dr. Jinny monitors healing and osseointegration progress at each visit.
Normal vs Concerning
Mild soreness resolving in 3–5 days is normal. Pain increasing after day 3, spreading swelling, or fever — call 7874 483 483 immediately.
Long-Term Care
Brush twice daily, use interdental brushes around the implant, and attend 6-monthly checkups for the lifetime of your implant.
